THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN ...

;...where most Malays will put their work and their life on hold;
...where the men will eye-ball the pretty young things in pink rather than those in red;
...where the so-called reformed Rempits will make the numbers either as delegates or non-delegates;
...where Syed Hussein Alattas will probably come out with a new book on an individual or the party;
...where among topics of discussions among most of the women would be what’s hot and what’s not in the latest designer labels, be it fashion or accessories
...where mothers, especially among the Puan Sris and Datins, make plans to mess up their children’s lives by matchmaking them with one another;
... most party members will be doing their shopping at the bazaar or the Mall during the proceedings of assembly;
...where small-time Malay traders hope to make a little money selling all kinds of wares outside the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC);
...where traders would drop prices like a ton of bricks on the last day to reduce or finish up their stock;
...where Supreme Council members, who are Cabinet ministers, will take the rostrum to defend themselves or their ministries’ policies and be witty at it;
...where the women delegates will ask for more say in government;
...where the men want more contracts and deals their way;
...traffic will be at a standstill around the Putra World Centre (PWTC) area at certain times of the day;
and many more happenings in and outside Merdeka Hall of the PWTC (not in that order) during the UMNO General Assembly, beginning today until the end of the week.
Selamat Bermesyuarat.

...where ministers and politicians make their rounds, kissing babies and pumping hands,
...where our stories get thrown to the bin because it is not anything abt politics and politicians,
...where we look elsewhere for other interesting stories. betul tak?

Fauziah, Well said. The future of the Malay depend on their mindset. They should have an agenda to get rid totally of the feudal mindset, where belief, myth and superstition became their value and norms. As long as they keep to this mindset,their progress in the modern world would be slow. The other Malaysian would progress fast and as usual the Malay would be left behind. Who is they to blame. In the past its always because they were colonized for more then four hundreds years. Remember the Indian, the Chinese and other races were also colonized but they never put the blame of colonization. The main reason is that they no longer have a feudal mindset. They got rid of it totally. Have a nice day.

More of a hot air sandiwara carnival. The louder the decibel win the loudest applause. No need to compete on sensibility and sensitivity. The more far-fetched the better.

Forgive me for saying most of the speakers are snake oil salesmen/women.

Year in year out making the same demands. Business as usual.

Salam Kak Teh
This year, I'm spared of having to listen to the Puan Sri and Datin exchanging the carats of their diamond rings and bracelets.
It makes good snippets, kan?

Salam Pak Idrus
I've been covering UMNO GAs since 1984. Nothing has changed, with the exception of Pak Lah taking over the presidency. The rest remains the same.

Something like TV3's Sure Heboh but minus the music.

The show is back in town... over and over again...
and ooh Fauziah... one more
..when someone from somewhere will spew out witty, silly and funny pantuns for all to listen and laugh.

Fauziah,

With regards to Pak Idrus' comment, I seriously believe 'big brother' wants to dumbsize the very community 'he' claims to represent and protect.

As long as Malay grassroots perceive themselves to be weak, 'big brother' has a role to fulfil, otherwise he becomes irrelevant. This is controlling and manipulating the vulnerability.

When a lie is told too many times, the people will believe it to be the truth.

Benevolence can become malevolent if so-called charity robs the recepient of human dignity and denial of life.

Intentions can be disguised as noble but beneath lurks evil.

Salam Fauziah:

Mari-mari adik kakak abang pakcik makcik. Cepat2 sebelum terlambat kerana acara sarkas tinggal beberapa hari saja lagi.
